Good morning, everyone. The sun keeps doing that annoying thing where it disappears and then appears again, so I had to kind of race to get pictures of Essie Pretty Edgy, which is the polish most of you wanted to see from Essie summer 2010. Demure Vixen came in second.
Hehe, look at that teeny-tiny bottle! It's cute, isn't it? Squee. Anyway, I like this color. I like this color a lot. Before any of you ask, no, it's not a dupe for OPI Jade Is the New Black. They're not even close. Jade Is the New Black is significantly darker and more blue based. Pretty Edgy applied well. On the first coat I kind of wasn't used to the mini brush yet, so I used a pretty thin coat. I think for that reason I had to do three coats, but if you use thicker coats from the start you could probably use two. The formula was good; better than the polishes in the recent Resort collection which definitely required three to four coats in order to get rid of VNL. This little guy is pretty opaque and pigmented.
I actually don't have too much more to say about Pretty Edgy. It's nice. It's green. It's a creme. A lot of people will like it, just like a lot of people go batshit over Dominica Green (which I have heard is quite sheer). I myself never got all the hype over Dominica Green; green shimmers do nothing for me. Pretty Edgy is a nice addition to my collection, though. I can't think of any other colors that are close to it, so I'm sure that if I went dupe-hunting I'd come up short. It has a nice sort of dusty quality to it that so many spring release polishes seem to have lately.
Here's a comparison of the mini bottle to a full-sized bottle (that's Splash of Grenadine). I guess it doesn't look too small, but I think it's about one third the size.
One of the things that I don't like about OPI minis is that the name of the polish isn't on the bottom of the bottle. Essie seems to be a bit more detail oriented; she labels her minis. Thanks Essie! The obsessive collector in me appreciates that.
All in all I'd say that if you're even remotely interested in green polish--and everyone seems to be right now--run out and get Pretty Edgy for yourself. Essie has been hitting it out of the park lately and I think this little guy is a grand slam. Everyone will love it. Good application, pretty color, readily available...what's not to love? Oh, but the name. Don't fool yourself, Essie. Everyone's releasing greens right now. I wouldn't really call this one edgy. Maybe if it was puke green or something...
You know what really cheers me up in the morning? Electric Light Orchestra. Oh, and of course caffeine. I discovered that if I put Don't Bring Me Down on loop I literally cannot stop myself from dancing within like ten minutes. Like I've been trying to write this post for an hour but I keep getting up and dancing. It's a little horrifying. Do you guys have a song like that? Like where when you hear it you can't help but sing along and dance a little like a jackass? There are a few other songs that have that effect on me, too. Hey, Soul Sister by Train is my jam. And yes, I know it's overplayed but I don't listen to the radio so I don't really experience that. I just play it over and over again. It makes me happy. It's my ringtone!
Okay, enough babbling. I've got to actually get dressed and meet a friend for lunch. I was hoping we could sit outside but it looks like it's about to death storm. Thanks Cleveland. So who's planning on picking up Pretty Edgy? Can anyone think of any dupey shades? The only one that's coming to mind is Sally Hansen Xtreme Going Green, but that one has shimmer. Ah well. Lemme know in the comments what you guys think!
