Sinful Colors Olympia

Greetings from my cubicle at the library.  I'm currently in the process of clearing my penultimate hurdle before I'm able to graduate, but I can't seem to focus.  Now is as good a time as any to write about nail polish, then.

Holy hell did this polish give me lobster hands.  That first photo is ridiculous.  Anyway, Sinful Colors Olympia.  I got this polish because I think it's a dupe for Essie Navigate Her, which I sort of wanted, but not enough to drop $8 on it.  This is the last polish I got from the Greek-ish themed Sinful Colors spring collection, and I'm happy with it.  The formula was pretty good for a light creme (two coats shown here) and it dried really quickly.  And TRUST ME, it doesn't make my hands look so red in real life.  Blergh.  Also, this one is particularly appropriate for me right now because I have been taking a class this semester on Greek athletics, so all I hear about is Olympia this, Olympia that.  I love it when my nail polish is TOPICAL.

That's all for today.  I'm doing okay with dealing with everything, so as always, thank you for the concern and support.  I think having a lot of work to do is helping me to focus on something else other than how I feel.  My biggest problem right now is lack of sleep, and I can't wait to finish this semester up and spend ONE ENTIRE DAY in bed with either Gilmore Girls, When Harry Met Sally..., Six Feet Under, or Labyrinth.  Or all of them.  But until then this library cubicle is my home.

Sinful Colors Zeus

You guys.  Thank you for the outpouring of support that has been going on for the past couple of days.  I got so many nice comments and e-mails.  It means more to me than you know that you're all here for me.  If I haven't responded to your e-mail I will!  It's just a busy time for me because it's the end of the semester and I have papers to grade and papers to write myself.  I will be spending a lot of time at the library for the next week and a half, so just bear with me!

And here's what's on my nails now.

Sinful Colors Zeus, which is a periwinkle with pinky-coppery shimmer.  While I was applying this one I almost couldn't believe it was a drug store polish.  It was perfect in two coats and not too thick or too thin.  That rarely happens for me with Sinful Colors.  I'm really into this one, and I don't think a polish can get much better for $1.99.

I feel like when I started writing this post I was planning on talking about my FEELINGS or something, but now I can't remember what I had in mind.  Maybe that in and of itself is indicative of what I'm feeling right now.  There is just so much stuff in my head and my mind is constantly racing.  I'm not sleeping well at all.  I need to just learn to calm the hell down.  For example!  I got the scores for my comprehensive exams that I was so worried about.  Not only did I pass, I "high passed" (which I think means I got a 90% or better).  Not only did I high pass, I apparently got the highest score.  So I stressed myself out over essentially nothing.  Maybe that should be a lesson to me.  Que sera, sera and all of that nonsense.

But epiphanies like this don't help my brain to slow down.  They don't help numb me from all of the bad things I've been feeling for the past week.  I wish that my emotions had an on/off switch.  I've been doing my best to laugh as much as I can, and I do think that's helping.  It has to be the little things that help us through, right?  But when the day ends and I crawl into bed, all I really want is to be lying next to someone who loves me.  If you have that you're so lucky.  But maybe finding happiness within myself is what's important?  I really have no idea at this point.  I hope things get easier.

But you guys really did help, and you're all wonderful.  Now, what do you think of Zeus?

OPI Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh? and Other Things

When I knew the name of this polish I couldn't not have it.  I didn't even care much what color it was.  I just knew I had to add it to my collection.

Good thing it's a super amazing edgy neutral khaki/putty/beige/awesome color with a drop of green thrown in that's opaque in two coats.  Because really, those are my favorite types of neutrals.  But anyway, this polish is amazing.  Flawless formula, good dry time, great color.  I love shades like this on my toes, and that's exactly where Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh? is after spending over a week on my fingers.

I've been contemplating how to write this post for the past seven days or so.  Instead of leading up to anything or having a big reveal I'm just going to tell you.  Like ripping off a band-aid.  I broke up with my boyfriend.  I can't talk much about it except to say that it was my idea and to say that we just had seemingly unbridgeable gaps between us.  Last Wednesday was a big day for me.  Someone who was a constant presence in my life became...not...and I made the official decision to move to New York.  The two things are not quite unrelated, but my reasons for ending my relationship went far beyond the island of Manhattan.

But I'm okay.  I'm just not quite myself.  There are so many changes happening so unbearably quickly, and I'm just fervently hoping that I can adapt as quickly.  But so far it just hurts.

Sorry to leave my first post in ages off on a bad note.  But I just wanted you to know.

Anyway, remember that time that Van Gogh cut off his own ear and then dozens of years later a nail polish brand decided to make a PRETTY GOOD pun about it?  That happened.

China Glaze Fast Track

I'm here!  I took my exams and survived, and only a little worse for wear.  During the course of preparing I:  made myself so nervous I threw up, drank what I assume was several gallons of coffee, and fell asleep for at least an hour under a table in the library.  But now that's done and I can share with you another China Glaze Capitol Colors shade, Fast Track, which would have been called Catnip if the original names had stayed.

Fast Track is a really interesting beige-y, taupe-y color with gold shimmer that also flashes pink and green if you look closely enough in the appropriate lighting conditions.  The formula was a bit thin and sheer, and I did three coats here.  But I love it.  I don't think it's like anything else I own, but it does remind me of a layering combination I once did with Rescue Beauty Lounge Grunge and China Glaze White Cap, which you can see here.  I like Fast Track way better than Smoke and Ashes.  It's been pretty sunny here lately, and I can't stop looking at my hands with this on my nails.  It has that elegant lengthening effect on my fingers.

Another topic.  To celebrate the completion of my exams my boyfriend brought me pink tulips.  As you know if you've been reading my blog, flowers often elicit squeals of joy from me.  I just love having them around.  I especially love them if they're from my boyfriend.  It's so romantic and thoughtful.

He got me that vase last summer, too.  For just such occasions.

That's all for today.  Opinions on Fast Track?  I'm sure you all knew that this is one I would be picking up.  I can't resist a quirky neutral.
