Good thing it's a super amazing edgy neutral khaki/putty/beige/awesome color with a drop of green thrown in that's opaque in two coats. Because really, those are my favorite types of neutrals. But anyway, this polish is amazing. Flawless formula, good dry time, great color. I love shades like this on my toes, and that's exactly where Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh? is after spending over a week on my fingers.
I've been contemplating how to write this post for the past seven days or so. Instead of leading up to anything or having a big reveal I'm just going to tell you. Like ripping off a band-aid. I broke up with my boyfriend. I can't talk much about it except to say that it was my idea and to say that we just had seemingly unbridgeable gaps between us. Last Wednesday was a big day for me. Someone who was a constant presence in my life became...not...and I made the official decision to move to New York. The two things are not quite unrelated, but my reasons for ending my relationship went far beyond the island of Manhattan.
But I'm okay. I'm just not quite myself. There are so many changes happening so unbearably quickly, and I'm just fervently hoping that I can adapt as quickly. But so far it just hurts.
Sorry to leave my first post in ages off on a bad note. But I just wanted you to know.
Anyway, remember that time that Van Gogh cut off his own ear and then dozens of years later a nail polish brand decided to make a PRETTY GOOD pun about it? That happened.
Beautiful color on you! And I'm sorry to hear about your break-up. I wish you the very best as you move your life forward in NY. NY sounds like the perfect place for an art scholar!
ReplyDeleteApril in Florida
Thank you, April.
DeleteFirst,I am the self appointed #1 fan of nude polish, and I've never thought of wearing them on my toes! I am totally (toe-tally?) doing this!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I giggled at the closing part of your post- "that happened"...lolz.
Third, I am sorry to hear about what you are feeling- being in pain, even if it was your decision, is never easy. In the end, you have to go with your gut and trust that all will work out the way it is supposed to. I think NY is the perfect place for you to be, and I wish you tons of luck!
XoXo
I love nudes on my toes! It's almost all I wear on them.
DeleteI've never really "gone with my gut" before, but...I think now is a good time to start. Thank you for the support, Maribeth.
*Huggsies*
ReplyDeleteThanks, Helena. Always appreciated.
DeleteI'm sorry you're going through a tough time, but you have SO much to look forward to. I'm so excited for you to be moving to NY. It was the most amazing time of my life and the perfect place to make a fresh start.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Grace. That's what I'm telling myself over and over again.
DeleteSorry to hear about your breakup, Steph. Even when you know it's probably for the best, it's still sad and difficult. You should go buy yourself some new nail polish to feel better :-)
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll just raid the black label box you sent me instead. Still loving it :)
DeleteI'm so sorry about your breakup and I hope everything will turn out well for you. Also, good luck with moving to New York, I'm sure you'll be back on your feet in no time :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Camila.
DeleteI am sorry to hear about your break up. But I'm sure you had your reasons and sometimes we have to do things just for ourselves. I'm sure things will work out and you'll love NYC and being surrounded by all the amazing art you will be seeing there!
ReplyDeleteI know you're right. Thank you so much for all of your comments [all the time] and support.
DeleteI'm sorry to hear about your breakup Steph, no matter who makes the decision it's tough to deal with. Best of luck in NY, you are going be great there!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think it's tougher this way. This is how my last two breakups have been, and neither of them was easy. But thank you, Wini.
DeleteAwww so sorry to hear about your break-up! *hugs*
ReplyDeleteBut NYC has big things in store for you =)
Thank you, Anna.
DeleteHope it all works out for you in a good way with this decision, but I think it will because it happens for a reason!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're right. Thank you.
DeleteI'm sorry for all you're having to deal with right now. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing that you have a lot of people who care about you and are wishing you all the best!
ReplyDeletePam, you have no idea how much comfort you provide. I'm so thankful for this community.
DeleteMy sympathy goes to you in this time of ouchieness.
ReplyDeleteThis may not be entirely appropriate, but a 97 year old woman gave me the following breakup advice "The best way to get over a man is to get under another one." Oh my. 0_o
I expected you to like the Van Gogh reference.
I know from experience that that advice is solid.
DeleteThis color looks beautiful on you. I did not buy it, despite like you, I knew the formula would be fab. I thought it was too much like my Sand Tropez (Essie)...but fact is - I would rather have the OPI one here than the Essie just because the formula differences...it's not just the color being almost dupes. But it's the only shade I don't have in the Holland Collection!
ReplyDeleteYou're incredibly brave for more than one reason! NYC is an amazing place...you will love it!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I ever commented before, but reading your blog made me stop biting my nails and become addicted to nail polish. I owe my hand-confidence to you! So I feel like I know you, even though I obviously don't. I wish you comfort in your time of healing... Golden Girls marathons and dry cereal are among my crutches (along with horseback riding and barn time). Look forward to your new future and buy yourself some pretty things!
Thank you, Catherine. I love your profile picture! I used to ride and I miss it. I don't have any time anymore, but I wish I did.
DeleteThe polish is looks really lovely on you, and that is a pretty good name. Some of the ones they come up with aren't as good. I'm sorry to hear about your breakup. I hope everything will work out for you. I just want to say your blog is one of my favorites, I always read it right away even when I have many, many other posts in my reader.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Brianna. That's so nice to hear.
DeleteBreak ups are always hard, no matter who made the decision. Stay strong, and have a wonderful time in New York! xo
ReplyDeleteI'll do my best to do both :)
DeleteBless your heart. I too have never commented, but you deserve support and you have mine. I'm a fellow grad student going through some growing pains, and you've been my gateway blog to a wonderful creative outlet and community that has helped me enormously. I look forward to your posts every week - I hope you know what a positive effect you have. Thank you for sharing a bit of yourself with us - and your polish!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Liz. I'll take all the support I can get, and yours is so appreciated. We have to stick together, us grad students. It's a hard road.
DeleteHi Steph, your blog has been a real source of joy for me in the blogosphere and I am so sorry to hear about your relationship. I hope that you can find comfort in loved ones and excitement in your upcoming move.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dovey, from one Hyde Park girl to another.
DeleteA girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. Onward, upward and eastward to new and better things
ReplyDeleteI might make "onward, upward and eastward" my new personal motto. Credited to you, of course :)
DeleteNYC won't know what hit them. Thanks for sharing so much of your life with us - you deserve every ounce of happiness coming your way.
ReplyDeleteOh, and is it totally crazy that when I first saw/heard of this polish, my immediate thoughts were "ART PUN!!" and "OMG STEPHANIE!!" ;D
Thank you, Lindsey. You're incredibly sweet.
DeleteI consider it a success that people think of me when there are art puns in polish names!
This is going to be weird however I phrase it, but A) so sorry to hear about the breakup--never fun no matter how it goes down and B) I'm making the jump to Manhattan, too! We should commiserate... or, what's the opposite of commiserate? Cocelebrate? We should do that :)
ReplyDeleteFeel free to e-mail me, Megan. I'd love to talk about your move and mine :)
DeleteAww stephanie sorry about the break-up but happy about the move! New York is a great place, mostly because I'm here haha just kidding, anyway we should get a bunch of bloggers together to welcome you to the area!
ReplyDeleteLauren! Do you mean it? That would be so sweet.
Deletenice posting.. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so much better on you than me! I'm darker so this looks way too light on me. I love it for the price I paid! $2.98
