Okay now, listen to me. Er, well, you can't hear me. So read this carefully: this polish has one of the best formulas I have ever used. Yes, it's true. I've shelled out the big bucks for Chanel and Rescue Beauty Lounge polishes, and the formula on this little guy is as good as those. Pretty much a one-coater with careful application. Also, I am absolutely in love with this color. It's a bit grayer and dustier than these photos are showing, and it reminds me a lot of one of the Chanel jeans colors. Blue Boy? Blue Boy looks more grayed out. But I'll never know because I won't be buying that Chanel. Maybe one of you guys can let me know. Here is what I do know: I paid $1.99 for this amazing little polish and it has one of the best formulas in my stash. It's a gorgeous creme that seems like it'll be perfect for every season. I call this a win.
Now, life stuff. More specifically, hair stuff. I am ONE OF THOSE GIRLS that doesn't really have a hair routine. I like to wear it long and in Heidi braids and in braided up-dos and in high ballerina-esque buns. But my haircut had been the same for ten years. In a decade I hadn't changed my hair. Here's a picture I've posted before that's pretty indicative of Steff-hair.
I'd been toying with the idea of bangs for quite some time. The guy I had been dating for the past couple years was vehemently against the idea, so I held off and kept my hair the same. The other day I went to go get my bi-annual haircut, sat down in the chair, and said to my new stylist (Mike!), "Do you think I would look stupid with bangs? Tell me the truth." He toyed around with my hair for a while and then said they would look great on me. So I said, "Do whatever you want." I am going to show you several photographs of MY NEW HAIR because I want OPINIONS.

This is a pretty big change for me. They're not those severe straight-across-y bangs; I can still get them out of my face. But still, super different. So, what do you think? Everyone I've talked to likes them. Ben is crazy about them. And yes, I'm happy with them. I know that if I get sick of them I can just twist them back and pin them. But I'm pretty insecure about them nonetheless. They're just so...different.
Also, funny side note. I thought to myself earlier, "I really need to blog my bangs;" I thought it would be funny if "blog my bangs" became some sort of a cliche. Like instead of "minding my own business" it was "blogging my bangs." I was just SITTING THERE, bloggin' my bangs... No? Okay, maybe it's just me. But if we could get something started there I'd be pretty excited.
So that's it. New hair and a perfect blue drug store polish. I'm telling you, run, do not walk to Walgreens and buy that blue. It's calling out to you.

LOVE the bangs!
ReplyDeleteGail, provider of black labels, you're so sweet. Thank you.
DeleteThe polish in an unsual blue.. gorgeous... It's already on my wishlist!
ReplyDeleteNow... the bangs!LOVE!!!
In the first picture you look really pretty! :)
Thanks very much!
DeleteDef on the lookout for that polish now, thanks for letting us know about it! And you look GREAT in bangs! I love that they're not straight across or like a side bang..they're perfect. :D
ReplyDeleteThank you! Definitely hunt down Rain Storm if you like blue.
DeleteFirst of all-there is a problem when your boyfriend won't let you do what you want with your hair. That's a big no no for me. I'm glad you kicked him to the curb. It's your hair to do as you please!! Second, you look sexy hot with those bangs. Before, without you were pretty, a student look. This look with these bangs definitely works for you, makes you look more grown up, PhD ready! I esp like the first picture you posted of your bangs. Sexy girl! Your new boyfriend must be lusting you even more now! HAHA! I also love that Sinful. I may need to hunt that one down.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mind so much that he voiced his opinion on the bangs. I can't blame it all on him. I finally got some balls and did it, though, so yay! I think I will keep them ;) And yes, Ben loves these bangs. Completely worth it.
DeleteDamn you know how to sell a polish, I'm all frenzied! Your bangs are SICK. They give you this great BoHo sophisticated look that I am seriously digging. Also, that aqua necklace and red lip are unfairly awesome. Oh dear, I might have just developed a girl crush...
ReplyDeleteIt's a good polish. And thank you so much! The aqua necklace was a graduation gift from my mother, and it's proving to be super versatile. And aside from MAC Lady Danger and Illamasqua Maneater, that CoverGirl red lipstick (Hot) is the most-used red in my arsenal. I highly suggest you pick it up. It's under $10, and its staying power is absolutely incredible.
DeleteLove that blue. Also I like your bangs but think they would look much better a tad shorter.
ReplyDeleteThe stylist suggested that I keep them longer, because you can always go shorter. But I do kind of like them like this. Maybe someday I will go shorter (before I go to New York?).
DeleteThe bang is great, changing hairstyle is good to keep nice spirits and you were right to do it. I love that it's a bit long, a bit wild, a bit untamed. Also I never noticed how cutely shaped were your jaw and chin until then, if my vision matters.
ReplyDeleteOf course your vision matters. Looks-wise (and heart-wise!) you are one of the most fabulous people I know. So I love that you approve!
DeleteYour hair looks great!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! You're nice.
DeleteLove the bangs! Very cute on you, and nicely versatile. And now I need to try to hunt down that Sinful, dammit.
ReplyDeleteThank you! And there were literally six of those Sinful displays...so if there's enough interest in Rain Storm maybe I will do a giveaway...
DeleteThe bangs make you look younger and fresher - nice choice. Love your blog! -Kristin from Canada :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! A couple people have told me they make me look younger.
DeleteThat polish is SICK. I need it!!! Might have to break my low-buy for it. In love with your necklace, too (but I love bib necklaces, so).
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for your Awesome Big Girl Hair. :)
At 25 I finally became a hair-adult.
DeleteLove the bangs! Very flattering!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteI got Rain Storm in a swap from Jen's Nail Files, I still cannot locate it here. You have me SO excited to try it. I love Sinful Colors!
ReplyDeleteSinful Colors is sort of hitting it out of the park lately with their new shades, as far as I can tell. Glad you were able to get this one :)
DeleteNice blue...I am thinking it might be close to China Glaze First Mate??? Or maybe this one has a touch of teal in it? We only have 1 store with Sinful in it and never seems to get new shades - only 2 little shelves of it. We never get the new collections of it either. Not sure why. It would sell well in my little town that folks either have a lot of $ or are just getting by it seems...not much of a middle class here...so $1.99 for a bottle is in there as a good way to pick up a I need something mood. Your bangs are cute - but having grown out bangs so many times in my life - I now am thinking no bangs and growing my hair long again to wear it like both Hepburn ladies did - long and pulled up maybe for the rest of my life. I am still struggling with the left overs of my bangs now that fall out of my pony tail and all but a Kate Middleton pull up front part, apply barrette or hidden pins. My bangs days go way back...I even worn those thick bangs Cher made popular in the 60's where you took your bangs all the way back to half of your hair line at the crown. I still remember my mom one night, parting my thick, long bangs and discovering that I had been plucking my eyebrows without her knowing it! My mom was strict on stuff like that!
ReplyDeleteI think CG First Mate is much less grayed out, I think. It's more of a true blue.
DeleteCute story about your mom!
Love the polish, that is a great blue. Your bangs look fantastic! A very good change. Also, I love the look of that Revlon Balm Stain in Sweetheart. I already have two of those, in Cherish and Lovesick, but you are making me want Sweetheart! I already had a hard time deciding not to get that one.
ReplyDeleteI have four of the Revlon Balm Stains (more on that on Monday!), and Sweetheart is the one I would recommend getting out of the four. I don't have Cherish or Lovesick (Cherish looked too light for me, but I'm not sure). But if you were wavering on Sweetheart, I say go pick it up.
DeleteI need that color. Going to check Walgreens tomorrow if I can. And I agree with what everyone else is saying -- those bangs look GREAT on you!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I hope you find it at Walgreens!
DeleteYour bangs are Bangin' (that was totally lame =) ) but I really really love them.
ReplyDeleteAaaaand now I have to track down that blue. If not for the amazing colour, then for the name!
Your comment made me wish I had RBL Bangin' to wear. Missed opportunity for sure.
DeleteI spent the afternoon looking for this polish yesterday with no luck, oh well. I found Essie Stroke of Brilliance instead!
ReplyDeleteYour bangs look fab, I personally adore bangs but couldn't keep up with the maintenance after a year and a half. So I'm in the process of growing them out now.
Stroke of Brilliance looks pretty! I guess a giveaway is in order for Rain Storm since I seem to have created a frenzy...
DeleteAnd thank you :) I'll let you know how well I deal with the maintenance.
The bangs are perfect on you!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteLOVE the bangs!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteI've been following you for two years, but I've never commented. Your bangs are fantastic - they really frame your face and add a sophisticated look for your next chapter in NYC. Also - just bought Rain Storm and I KNEW you would have it for some reason...I can't wait to wear it.
ReplyDeletemackenzie, I'm so glad you finally commented! That makes my day.
DeleteRain Storm is amazing. So glad I snatched it up, and you did too!
Bangs look very good, well done!

DeleteUgh, I was literally JUST looking at this nail polish in Walgreens, and your review makes me want to run BACK out to buy it! It's really the perfect denim blue.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be my first Sinful Colors purchase, so it's encouraging to hear that you think the formula is so great. Thanks for the review!
Not all Sinfuls are this great, but this one definitely is. Such a miracle drug store polish.
DeleteLove, love, love the long bangs on you! They really draw the eye in toward your face and accentuate your cheekbones.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much! I do think they're nice for the framing-my-face quality. Never thought of that...
DeleteFunny coincidence - after I published my comment I saw the "I love, love, love your comments, guys!" line. I was trying to get across how much I strongly approved of the new look without making it sound like you didn't look great before - because, of course, you did!
ReplyDeleteI like to think I always look great ;) (not really)
DeleteI love this color...I can't believe I didn't see this earlier. Oh well, better late than never!!! You've inpired me...to go buy this polish!!!
ReplyDeleteBig shout out to you!!! I haven't used this polish yet (just got it yesterday) so I figured people could check it out here!! http://www.facebook.com/GltterMeThis?ref=hl
