OPI All A-Bordeaux the Sled

Thank you all for the congratulations re:  our engagement.  Honestly, still pretty surreal.  I really never thought this would happen for me.  Anyway, I had to change my nail color because one of my nails (on my right hand, so you won't see it) ripped off like, down to my skin.  It was bad, guys.  Bad enough for me to say an obscenity in the library more loudly than I should have.  Anyway, the polish looked all jacked up after that, so I picked something totally vamp and fall.

This polish rarely shows up as anything other than black or super dark brown on me.  But it's actually a wine color, as the name implies.  It's pretty much my go-to vampy.  It came out with the 2009 OPI holiday collection.  I know there are a million polishes out there that would dupe this one, but I like this one in particular.  The formula is pretty thin and runny.  It needs three coats to eliminate bald patches/cuticle drag.  I actually did four on some nails.  Maybe this polish is too high maintenance for what it is.  But, I still love it.  And in the autumn and winter I reach for it pretty often.

I think it looks nice with this sparkly thing that lives on my left hand now.  It's so pretty, so shiny, so DISTRACTING.  I was trying to read that article there forever, but I just kept looking down at my hand.  I'm such a girl.

Anyway, that's all.  It's almost Friday, which means I almost get to sleep in.  And I'm pretty excited about it.

  1. I love vampy colors like this but I feel like my nails have to be super short to be able to wear them. I like how it looks with your nails at this length. Also, I recently had a really bad break too. I screamed a few obscenities both out loud and on my blog. And I would be super distracted too haha. :]

    1. I totally agree on the shortness. That's part of the reason why I wear my nails so short--I think darker colors look better. And I love darker colors!

Yes, nail breakage is not fun. When it peels off some skin with it you know it's a disaster. My finger still hurts.

  3. I love the darker shades, I'm a "short'n chic" alumni as well, although I do grow them out from time to time & I like that too. Your ring is so lovely, congrats to you!

    1. Aw, thank you so much!

I usually don't grow my nails very long. Actually, with the way I hold a pen (which is essentially in a fist) causes my nails to dig into my palm when I'm writing if they're too long. That's part of the reason I do keep them so short. Fun fact.

  4. Very pretty. The mini of this is actually still in my untried pile (it was in a mini set with Holiday Glow and Shi-merry Chic, which were my main lemmings from that collection) - I should break it out when it cools down a little. It still feels like summer here, no matter how much I will it to be fall. I miss my vampies!

    1. I liked Holiday Glow a lot, but Shim-merry Chic reminded me too much of puke. I wore it once, liked the idea of it, and then I couldn't get past the vomit thing. I swapped mine away.

It still feels like summer here too. Although the other day it was like 55 degrees when I left my place for work at 8am. It was nice.

  5. I have this one and a # of others that are blackened this and that (blues, burgundy, greens). It's not my fav blackened burgundy color wise but it's up there as far as perfection formula. So wish that OPI would go back to making holiday theme collections and keep the movie tie ins for say a pre holiday release. I miss the great shades they came out with for holiday and would look forward all yr just for what OPI did at holiday...some of my all time fav shades are from OPI holiday collections.

    1. I totally agree on the OPI holiday comment. They're usually the best collections.

But Warm and Fozzie was a win, at least.

    1. Thank you! And actually...no. I don't do anything to my nails. I'm really low maintenance when it comes to care. I do nothing to my cuticles...I just cut my nails and file and buff when they seem too long. That's all. I do use a Sally Hansen hardening base coat.

  9. So funny, I've had this color on either my fingers or my toes for almost a month now. As soon as I take it off I want to put it back on! Which is rare considering sometimes I barely make it 24 hours before I'm changing polishes. Such a perfect vamp

  10. Hi! first off, congratulations on your engagement!!! I've been reading your blog for a while and love it. I love this particular shade vampy wine/burgundy is like my signature and I like it (as a pedi) all year round. I have a question, how do you get your mani to last; specially when using dark colors and that many coats, whenever I attemp to do a halfdecent mani I get it ruined in seconds, do you have an advice for me? thanks and sorry for the loooong post.

    1. Thank you very much.

I mean, I don't have any special tips for you. Polish generally doesn't tend to last very long on me. But I've had this one on for a couple days and it's mostly fine. I use Sally Hansen InstaDri topcoat because...it's cheaper than Seche Vite, honestly. I do a generous coat and I usually wrap the tips with dark colors. I hope that helps a little?
